There’s a big cost jump when you go from Bento ($49) to FileMaker Pro ($299), Ben. I’ll stick with Bento. 😉
One of the things that attracted me to the GRS was that I could use it on the road or at the local library and all I needed to take along was my iPad. Do my research. Capture with the Bento Templates on my iPad, and synch back to Bento on my iMac when I got home. Up until I ran across GRS, I would use my iPhone and iPad to capture documents I’d found in my research and wait until I got home to go over them in detail and file them on my iMac. I have Reunion on both my iPhone and iPad, so I would occasionally add information there at the source, but that was really more of a supplemental method. There are some very good scanning programs for iOS devices. I have used JotNot Pro for several years. Recently, I also added Scanner Pro. Nice syncing with Dropbox.
I have started using the Genealogical Research System also. I don’t have much experience with Bento, but I’m picking it up. I like the concept of GRS and highly recommend the author’s blog. It seems very well suited to gathering the information that eventually make it into Ben’s practical citation.
